The Independent Care Review needs to recommend better safeguards to protect care leavers from homelessness

It is well known that care leavers are more likely to experience homelessness but despite this, significant gaps in policy and practice to support these young people remain. As we eagerly await the final recommendations of the Independent Care Review, our new joint briefing based on practice from ourselves, New Horizon and Youth Legal has crucial insight from care leavers who have become homeless, as well as solutions for change. We hope that the Care Review, and the Government’s response to it, will take our findings and recommendations into account so that action is taken to ensure this issue is finally addressed. 30 UK children’s charities call for Bill of Rights plans to be scrapped

A coalition of 30 children’s charities led by the Children’s Rights Alliance for England, including the National Children’s Bureau, Together (Scottish Alliance for Children’s Rights), and Children England, have sent a letter to the Secretary of State for Justice, Dominic Raab, calling for the UK Government to abandon its proposals for a Bill of Rights, which is expected to feature in the forthcoming Queen’s speech.
